Before the elections came about, Presidential Candidate Jake Pereira and Vice Presidential Candidate Alex ByBee were found guilty of breaking a piece of legislation. This sounds pretty juicy so brace yourselves!
On February 27 2014, Attorney General Steven Kish charged ASUN Presidential Candidate Jake Bybee and Vice Presidential Candidate Alex ByBee of violating SAS 502.12.B.10. Within Section 12, these candidates were held accountable for ethical breaches in their campaign because it “threaten the validity of the ASUN’s commitment to fairness, democracy, and the legal institutions empowered to protect that democracy, as well as to define and provide equitable remedy for the same.”
What they are being held accountable for is placing one of their campaign signs on RHA property that is zoned; meaning that signs cannot be placed on their property. Since they have been charged for the violation of Section 12, these candidates now have to pay a fine that is 5.00 each.
